TD₿: What's Really Wrong with HBO's Bitcoin Documentary - (a Swan original video) with Hurley
TL;DR: HBO’s documentary falsely accuses a Bitcoin developer of being Satoshi Nakamoto, ignoring that Bitcoin's success is rooted in decentralization, not its creator's identity.
Hey Bitcoiners,
HBO's new Bitcoin documentary claims to reveal Satoshi Nakamoto's identity. It's a reckless and poorly supported accusation that targets Peter Todd, an early Bitcoin developer. The evidence they use is flimsy at best, and the documentary's tone is mocking, completely missing the point of what Bitcoin stands for.
The film's main argument hinges on a weak interpretation of Todd's forum post, suggesting he accidentally revealed himself as Satoshi. It's absurd and not remotely convincing. The film even stretches Todd's joke about sacrificing Bitcoin to support their theory that he burned Satoshi's coins. The whole thing feels like a misguided attempt to add drama without real proof.
What's worse is the dangerous real-world implications this might have for Todd's safety. Focusing on Satoshi's identity distracts from Bitcoin's true value, which lies in its decentralized nature. Ultimately, who Satoshi is doesn't matter—Bitcoin has outgrown its creator, and its design ensures it thrives without needing that mystery solved.
While the documentary claims to solve this great mystery, it does more harm than good, and we don't recommend wasting time on it. Let's focus on the bigger picture—Bitcoin's impact and potential—rather than its creator's identity.
Enjoy!

HBO’s ELECTRIC MONEY DOCUMENTARY… Is Not So Electric!
Peter Todd and Adam Back's early interactions on the public cryptography mailing list and Todd's first BitcoinTalk post around the time Satoshi Nakamoto left are known facts. Despite Todd's snarky style, there is a theory in a documentary that Todd misremembered and was actually responding to himself as Satoshi, a claim that seems far-fetched.
The documentary also uses Todd's joke about deleting Bitcoin to suggest he destroyed Satoshi's keys. Additionally, Adam Back's early discussions about Bitcoin after its launch show he wasn't initially invested in it, contrary to claims that Todd and Back conspired to create Bitcoin and cover it up. The film also falsely suggests that Todd not joining Blockstream was part of this alleged cover-up.

2023- Infamous Wikileaks Afghan War Logs Embedded in Bitcoin Blockchain
Project Spartacus, an anonymous initiative, uses the Bitcoin blockchain and the Ordinals protocol to permanently inscribe WikiLeaks' Afghan War logs.
Initially released in 2010, these logs exposed hidden truths about the Afghanistan war and are central to charges against Julian Assange. By adding the logs to the blockchain, Project Spartacus ensures they remain immutable, tamper-proof, and accessible for future generations.
The project also offers a public interface for individuals to inscribe the logs and supports donations to organizations like the Freedom of the Press Foundation and Reporters Without Borders.
