TD₿: The Rise and Fall of Bitcoin by Benjamin Wallace
TL;DR There has been plenty of times in Bitcoin's past where it has been marked a failure only to prove all of its doubters wrong.
Hey Bitcoiners,
When you ask a lot of true Bitcoin OGs how they came across Bitcoin in the early days, many of them will respond that they were in talk forums, chat groups, tech newsletters, or read tech publications like Wired and Slashdot.
At the time, Bitcoin had “crashed” in 2011 and had only been around for ~2 years. People were still wrapping their heads around this weird magic internet money.
Fast forward to today, and there are still a lot of similarities. When Bitcoin’s price crashes, you get all kinds of mainstream articles about Bitcoin’s downfall and how it has failed. That’s probably because today, people are still wrapping their heads around this weird magic internet money.
One of my favorite Bitcoin websites is Bitcoin Obituaries which has tracked all the times Bitcoin has been declared dead in the media. Bitcoin has now been declared dead 461 times (shown below in red dots).
Bitcoin is Dead! 😱
Of course, Bitcoin is not dead. Bitcoin is actually thriving as fundamental metrics like the number of addresses with >$100 and the total number of entities indicate that Bitcoin adoption continues to fly upwards even during this bear market.
When you ask Bitcoin OGs what their first touchpoint with Bitcoin was, many of them will say this Wired article that documented Bitcoin’s fall in 2011. (11/23/2011)
This is a fun article to read from the past. In order for these Bitcoin OGs to become OGs, they had to do their own research and look past what the mainstream media was telling them about Bitcoin in 2011. The same dynamic holds true today.
Bitcoin rewards those who have the curiosity to look deeper and think for themselves.
The Bitcoiners today are the OGs of tomorrow.

“Bitcoiners are generally awake. The rest of the world is generally asleep. Number of bitcoiners go up. The world is waking up, one bitcoiner at a time. This is good for bitcoin. This is good for the world.” - hodlonaut, Building citadel21.com
