TD₿: Keynote Speech at the 2022 Atlas Society Gala by Michael Saylor
TL;DR "Bitcoin is an economic machine, based on a truth machine, poised to emerge as a freedom machine."
Hey Bitcoiners,
A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of witnessing Michael Saylor be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Atlas Society Gala in person.
It was a special ceremony, thrown by a special organization, honoring a special Bitcoiner. The Atlas Society describes itself as a society that promotes Objectivism: the philosophy of reason, achievement, individualism, and freedom.
Objectivism is the philosophy of author Ayn Rand, who penned the renowned novel “Atlas Shrugged.” The philosophy stands in opposition to the doctrines of irrationalism, coercion, and collectivism that have resulted in countless tragedies and chaos throughout human history. Objectivism, at its core, celebrates the power of the individual.
It’s not hard to understand why Bitcoin meshes well with the teachings of Objectivism. Many Bitcoiners have described Bitcoin as a “truth machine.” Anyone can validate the Bitcoin ledger’s history, and we know for sure that it will never be changed. For that reason, Bitcoin represents objective truth in the digital age.
On top of that, Bitcoin is not forced upon any single person. It is permissionless money that every individual must opt into and choose for themselves. This stands in stark contrast to fiat currencies, which the citizenry of the world is coerced into by governments and central banks.
Because of this, Bitcoin has often been considered money for the sovereign individual.
Michael Saylor gave an inspiring keynote speech at the ceremony that I think everyone should take the time to watch it. (10/18/2022)
After listening to his speech, I couldn’t help but feel like we are at the forefront of a movement even larger than Bitcoin itself. A movement of moving away from the harmful idea of collectivism and embracing individualism. Bitcoin, of course, will play a key role as a pivotal technology that will empower this movement.
After learning more about Objectivism, there is no doubt in my mind that Ayn Rand would have been a Bitcoiner had she been alive today.

“Like the cypherpunks who in reality write and run code without asking for permission or help, so too Rand’s heroes go about their lives acting productively with independence and rationality as their standards.” - Tomer Strolight, Editor-in-Chief at Swan Bitcoin
