TD₿: Internet vs Bitcoin (a video) by Safello
TL;DR Bitcoin is just as misunderstood and feared as the Internet was in its early days.
Hey Bitcoiners,
I love going back and watching old interviews about the Internet. It is fun to see what people got right, what people got wrong, what irrational fears people had about it, and how people envisioned the Internet would or wouldn’t impact our future.
A lot of these videos consist of people baffled by why some individuals were so excited about the Internet. They simply could not imagine all of the ways that the Internet would change the world around them. Yet, there was a minority of people back then who believed it could and would change everything.
Most people in those old clips also appear afraid about how the Internet would alter their way of the life. I believe this is because a majority of people do not like change, so their natural reaction is to reject new technologies that risk threatening the status quo.
It is not difficult to see the similarities between how people reacted to the Internet in the past and how people are reacting to this new technology today called Bitcoin.
Recently I enjoyed watching this short video that does a good job highlighting these similarities. (04/08/2014)
Of course, all of these individuals who doubted the Internet, who said it was too difficult to use, or who thought it would lead to catastrophic outcomes, were proven very wrong. The Internet ended up being one of the most important inventions of all time and drove our society and the global economy to new heights.
I believe that 30 years from now, people will look back at early Bitcoin videos the same way I look back on early Internet videos today. Furthermore, there will almost certainly be some new innovative technology at that time whose merits people will be endlessly arguing about.
That’s just the nature of how new technologies emerge.
Enjoy your weekend, Bitcoiners.

“New technologies don't get adopted in a straight line. It's a constant game of cat-and-mouse between people's expectations and tech development.” - Anil, Bitcoin Educator (see his work here)
