TD₿: Inflation-related Protests (a thread) by Alex Brammer
TL;DR As the cost of living continues to rise around the world, protests have broken out in dozens of countries.
Hey Bitcoiners,
Sri Lanka has been making the news for all the wrong reasons. Due to poor policy decisions at the government and central bank level, the country is now suffering a true economic and currency crisis.
Country-wide protests have taken place around the rising cost of living that has made essentials like fuel and food too expensive for the majority of the residents of Sri Lanka.
Below you will see Sri Lanka protestors breaking down the gates of the Sri Lanka Central Bank and storming the President’s home in frustration and anger.
Unfortunately, this cost-of-living crisis is not isolated to Sri Lanka. There have been reports of protests in dozens of countries across the globe as many local currencies depreciate at an increasingly rapid rate.
Alex Brammer made this thread that is tracking inflation-related protests worldwide that is worth exploring. (07/10/2022)
We are witnessing in real-time the consequences of irresponsible central bank and government policy, and my thoughts are first and foremost with the victims suffering in these countries.
What’s happening right now with these depreciating fiat currencies is one big advertisement for why Bitcoin is so important. Seeing these images and reading these stories helps remind me why I spend so much of my time and effort pushing for the adoption of an undebaseable money, Bitcoin.
