TD₿: Forks and Splits by Paul Sztorc
TL;DR Splits contradict the very purpose of the blockchain – which is to synchronize everyone’s computers.
Hey Bitcoiners,
A few months back as Ethereum enthusiasts cheered on NFTs and DeFi pump and dumps, Ethereum itself suffered an inadvertent chain split.
ETH, the proclaimed “ultra sound money”, had a bug that caused the blockchain to split in two where at one point ~54% of nodes were validating the wrong chain. Yikes!
If you’re wondering “what’s a chain split and why is that bad?” Then check out this more technical explanation from Paul Sztorc (11/02/2017).
As Ethereum continues to have a whole host of problems, Bitcoin’s protocol is functioning exactly as intended since the Genesis Block.
