TD₿: Bitcoin Must Become Untraceable by ReasonTV
TL;DR Bitcoin's creator designed it to be radically transparent, but the tools exist to make it as hard to trace as cash.
Hey Bitcoiners,
Some of Bitcoin’s most important properties is its resistance to censorship and confiscation.
This is especially true when Bitcoin is used throughout the world by people living under authoritarian regimes.
It’s important to realize that when these people use Bitcoin in these hostile jurisdictions, they often commit a crime in their government’s eyes and risk being detained just for using Bitcoin.
Therefore, tools around Bitcoin that further enhance the privacy of transactions are vital to protect these individuals who are using this technology as a lifeline.
Today, tools already exist that allow individuals to use Bitcoin more privately, but it takes a high level of technical expertise to use them.
ReasonTV released this video earlier in the week that looks at how Bitcoin can be used more privately and why it matters. (07/20/2022)
Bitcoin is inherently transparent, which is crucial for everyone on the network to audit the ledger, but privacy is also key for it to remain uncensorable and resistant to government control.
I’m encouraged by the privacy improvements that have been made on Bitcoin over the last several years, but as an industry, we should continue to develop tools that beginners and experts alike can use to better protect their privacy when transacting on the Bitcoin network.
