TD₿: Bitcoin is Winning the Information War - Here's Proof - (a Swan original video) with Hurley
TL;DR: BlackRock and BNY Mellon back Bitcoin as Bill Maher spreads energy misinformation. Discover how Bitcoin's First Amendment protection, global liquidity and institutional adoption drive its rise.
Hey Bitcoiners,
Bill Maher recently criticized Bitcoin's energy use, spreading misinformation that Bitcoin consumes 8% of global electricity. This claim was swiftly debunked, with data showing that Bitcoin uses only 0.49% of global electricity, including renewable sources. Maher's rant was met with widespread criticism, as many pointed out the benefits Bitcoin provides, particularly for those living under dictatorships or facing hyperinflation.
Critics often argue that energy consumption should not be viewed as inherently bad and that technological advancements, like Bitcoin, directly contribute to human flourishing. Bitcoin supporters also highlighted that the energy debate is outdated and largely misunderstood by those unfamiliar with its global impact.
Meanwhile, institutions like BlackRock and BNY Mellon are increasingly backing Bitcoin, recognizing its potential as a global monetary alternative. BlackRock's head of digital assets described Bitcoin as a scarce, decentralized asset free from traditional counterparty risk, appealing to investors amid concerns about currency debasement and political instability.
Additionally, new research links Bitcoin's price movement with global liquidity, reinforcing its role as a significant financial asset. A recent paper also argues that Bitcoin is protected under the First Amendment, as it represents a form of free speech and protest against government-controlled money systems. As institutional adoption grows, Bitcoin continues to solidify its place in the global economy.
Enjoy!
