TL;DR: A new version of the primary Bitcoin software has been released with several improvements and bug fixes.

The Bitcoin core development project has released the latest version of the client which is the principle Bitcoin node software and continues the gradual evoloution of the original software Satoshi released back in 2009.
In this article, BTCCasey highlights the changes in the latest release. You do not need to update this software if you run a node, but you can and should evaluate this release in due course if you do.
