TD₿: Bitcoin Banks by Hal Finney
TL;DR Hal Finney was a Bitcoin pioneer who had a clear vision of what the future held for Bitcoin.
Hey Bitcoiners,
Yesterday Pete Rizzo reminded me that it was the anniversary of one of the most legendary Tweets of all time.👇
Hal was a legend for many reasons including his early work in cryptography, having the first Tweet about Bitcoin, and for receiving the first Bitcoin transaction; but one other brilliant aspect of Hal was how prescient he was about Bitcoin’s future.
Back in 2009, Hal was already thinking about ways Bitcoin could be improved upon.
Talk about a low-time preference mind! Hal foresaw a lot of issues that Bitcoiners are facing today, and was already working through how to solve them 13 years ago.
One example of Hal’s extraordinary foresight can be found in this post he wrote on a future with Bitcoin-backed banks (12/30/2010).
Even then, Hal was envisioning Bitcoin as a global settlement network for the entire global financial system.
Today, I am honored to do my part in carrying on Hal’s work and helping to make his visions a reality.
