TD₿: Banking the Unbanked with Jack Dorsey and Alex Gladstein
TL;DR Bitcoin will help improve financial inclusion for billions of people around the world
Hey Bitcoiners,
Despite all the technological progress we’ve made as a society in the past several decades, we still live in a world that is not connected financially. It is estimated that 1.7 billion people in the world still do not have access to basic financial services.
This statistic is even more shocking when you learn that, according to PEW research, an estimated 83% of adults living in developing countries have a mobile phone.
Even when they do have access, individuals from emerging markets are typically left with slow, expensive options to send and receive money from the outside world.
Bitcoin fixes this. Bitcoin is a monetary network that is accessible and open to anyone with a phone and internet connection. When coupled with the Lightning Network, it is also the cheapest and fastest international payment system in history.
It will do wonders for financial inclusion in the coming decades.
At last year’s conference, Jack Dorsey sat down with Alex Gladstein to discuss “Banking the Unbanked” in what was one of my favorite talks of the conference (06/05/2021).
In the conversation, Jack Dorsey famously said he would leave Twitter and Square if Bitcoin needed more help.
A lot can change in one year…

Quote of the Day
“For me, bitcoin changes absolutely everything. What I'm drawn to the most about it is the ethos, what it represents."...I don't think there is anything more enabling around the world.” - Jack Dorsey, CEO of Block
