TD₿: A Vision for a Value-Enabled Web by Gigi
TL;DR The vision of a value-enabled web is one of fairness, openness, positive-sum exchange, and allowing value packets to flow as freely as data packets did in the past.
Hey Bitcoiners,
Twitter broke —well—Twitter when it announced that it will prohibit any promotion of third-party social media platforms. If a Twitter account posts a link to another social media site, then from now on, that user will be suspended or banned.
VC and Founder of Y-Combinator, Paul Graham, posted a link to Mastodon and was subsequently banned by Twitter shortly after the announcement.
This awful policy decision has caused an outcry amongst accounts of all sizes.
But I thought the most interesting inclusion of the list of Twitter’s banned social media platforms was Nostr. It’s interesting because Nostr is not a platform. It is an open-source protocol. There is no company behind Nostr. It is a censorship-resistant communication protocol that can provide an alternative to Twitter, among many other things.
It speaks volumes that Nostr, a relatively small project just now gaining some traction, is included by Twitter in its censorship list.
Perhaps it has something to do with former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey donating to the project and tweeting about it a lot of late.
I think it shows that Nostr is onto something. If you want to learn more about the project, just follow Jack’s advice and click on the link below.👇
The truth is…Nostr is just the beginning. One day in the not-so-distant future, we will look back and think it was insane to have a worldwide web that allows for the spread of misinformation, targeted advertisements, bots, and clickbait.
Gigi wrote this blog post that laid out his vision for a value-based web that could eradicate some of the issues every Internet user experiences today. (Block 767992)
Now that we have digital money - we can finally have a web that is open, permissionless, and where users can create value and receive value in a frictionless manner without middlemen.
The ramifications of this are truly mindblowing, and it is all made possible by open-source protocols like Bitcoin, the Lightning Network, and Nostr.
