TD₿: A Conversation With Edward Snowden at the Bitcoin 2019 Conference
TL;DR Bitcoin gives people a way to opt-out of this dystopian nightmare that today's surveillance is creating.
Hey Bitcoiners,
Over the past several weeks, we’ve seen plenty of examples of how banks and intermediaries can seize and censor funds for any arbitrary reason.
The Freedom Convoy taking place in Canada right now is a prime example of this.
Whether you agree with it or not is not important, what is important is the fact that organizations like GoFundMe and TD Ameritrade have seized donations simply because they disagree with their cause.
This kind of financial repression is exactly why the world needs a censorship-resistant form of money, like Bitcoin.
Another story that snuck under peoples’ radars last week was the report that declassified documents revealed the CIA has been using mass surveillance programs on its own citizens.
US government institutions have once again been caught illegally spying on unwitting Americans.
All of this reminds me of Edward Snowden. He spoke at Bitcoin 2019 about how Bitcoin allows people to opt-out of this world of increasing surveillance (07/11/2019).
With surveillance now sadly becoming a part of our daily lives, people will increasingly look for an alternative that can’t be controlled or weaponized against them.
Bitcoin fixes this.
