Jeff Booth: Why Do We Have Inflation? (a video) from Pacific Bitcoin
TL;DR: Why is theft required in money to live in a productive society? Theft is embedded into the system. Worse, it's largely a silent theft in the form of incremental lost in purchasing power.
Hey Bitcoiners,
We live in a system that requires increasing levels of manipulation to stay solvent. It's colliding against a free market force driven by technology with very strict rules but no rulers. Next time someone asks why Bitcoin, ask them why a system that requires theft is better than a standard with strict rules no one person or entity can change alone and is determined through open-source overwhelming consensus or changes don't happen.
Jeff Booth, author of The Price of Tomorrow, sat down with Host of Coin Stories, Natalie Brunell at Pacific Bitcoin 2022 and explains why understanding this theft is important and how to reason with skeptical no-coiners.
Enjoy!

Quote of the Day
“I don’t believe we shall ever have a good money again before we take the thing out of the hands of government, that is, we can’t take it violently out of the hands of government, all we can do is by some sly roundabout way introduce something that they can’t stop.”
Job of the Day
Director of Application Security
The Company
Swan is a leading Bitcoin-only financial services company supporting individuals and companies throughout their Bitcoin journey. We hire passionate Bitcoiners who want to work with a self-motivated and fully distributed startup team.
The Role
As Director of Application Security, you will help scale Swan as it enters into our growth phase as the biggest and most trusted brand in Bitcoin financial services. You will lead the Application Security team by organizing, planning, mentoring, and guiding security engineers as well as interfacing closely with the larger Swan team to spread best practices through the team.
We love to hire people with a broad skillset, with expertise in at least one or more areas. You will work closely with people across the realms of engineering, infrastructure, opsec, and application security to achieve your goals. This job requires deep experience in software development in the security realm, but additional expertise in operational security or technical product management is a plus.
Our team is very product and customer-focused, so a love of product, and, of course, a love of Bitcoin, is first and foremost. You’ll work closely with our CTO, CISO, and CPO to identify the best ways to achieve business and product goals, and play a key role in delivering security focused products and internal improvements. This is a hands-on role involving architecture, implementation, and team leadership reporting directly to the CTO.
A successful candidate will need a combination of troubleshooting, technical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle a mix of disparate tasks ranging from project management to technical architecture and diagramming in a remote environment. This role will provide career growth opportunities as you gain new security skills in the course of your duties.
Swan is not a web3, crypto, or blockchain company. If you’re unsure of the difference between Bitcoin and these things, please grab this free book before you apply for the job: http://swan.com/freebook

Skills and experience that will help you succeed
At least 7 years of software engineering experience, with a heavy focus on security and leadership growth.
Demonstrated capacity and desire for technical leadership in a fast-paced startup environment. This is not a people management position first and foremost, but the ideal candidate can be a tech lead for a small team.
Knowledge and expertise in identity and authentication flows and products. Must be able to write proposals and implement security features involving public/private key encryption, OIDC, and JWT-based authentication.
High throughput and clear written communication and multitasking - we are a remote company with a highly active Slack culture that moves quickly.
