About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Director, Government Affairs to join our extremely high-growth, NASDAQ-listed company. This critical role will help to develop and drive aligned policy priorities and principles for the company. Reporting to the Head of Public Policy, this individual will interact with local, state, and federal legislative bodies and government agencies, as well as Riot’s outside lobbyists, trade associations, and other industry leaders, to represent and protect Riot’s business plans and interests. This position can be based in Washington, D.C. or Austin, TX.
Essential Functions
Work with the head of public policy to enhance Riot’s vision, specific principles and strategies; help to execute to achieve short and long-term objectives.
Monitor and anticipate changes in the Bitcoin policy environment; develop financial impact assessments for key legislation and regulatory changes in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Perform research and help to develop industry-leading data and information to educate policymakers.
Proactively pitch and create content to facilitate education efforts to inform policymakers and the public.
Maintain and nurture strategic bipartisan relationships with local, state, and federal government officials and their staff.
Develop strong business relationships with senior management and provide timely updates on critical policy issues that impact business objectives.
Help to develop and advise on political giving strategy at state and federal level.
Grow and maintain diverse coalitions in support of policy issues and business priorities.
Collaborate with local grassroots and industry advocates to build areas of common interest.
Assist with preparing Riot executives for appearances before government committees and agencies in support of Riot and the Bitcoin mining industry.
Help to develop legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.
Partner with legal counsel to ensure compliance on regulatory matters and in drafting comments during the rulemaking process.
This position may require significant domestic travel commitments to Riot facilities, meetings with policymakers and advocates, and conferences.
This role may require 25-50% of travel

Proven ability to discuss business critical information at highest levels of management and to align multiple stakeholder views.
Display leadership, ability to motivate others to advance goals, and the ability to effectively manage various projects/roles in an evolving environment.
Guide with business sense, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity; skilled in building and maintaining trust with stakeholders.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree is required. Masters-level degree or a Juris Doctor is preferred.
At least 7 years of professional experience in advocacy or public policy with strong government contacts at the U.S. federal level or in the state of Texas.
Experience working with legislative, executive, and regulatory government officials. Experience with media inquiries and strategy would be a bonus.
